Please tell me the correct decanter for storing spirits, like rum in round or scotch in square?

In the movies you see crystal decanters for liquor, whiskey is supposed to go in one shape and scotch in another and gin in another and so on. I am trying to find the guide that tells you that so i dont have to use tags.
