The Adventures of Huck finn...?

In chapter 35 when Huck and Tom are at the farm and Tom is talking about their "plan" to break Jim out, Twain seems to be mimicking and almost attacking something through Tom's Illogical plan where he goes out of his way to make things hard to accomplish the goal because its how the "authorities" do it in books and there is no honor or adventure in doing it the easy way. What do you suppose Twain is attacking? Thanks for everyone's help!
