Surgery question.......?

OKay so Im going in for minor surgery this morning & I was told that since Im menstrating I should not wear a tampon but to use a pad. Now I HATE pads & was just wondering why I cant wear a tampon instead?? They are gong to be anesthesizing me does this maybe have something to do w it??
