If I'm in distress, will my belgian malinois instinctively protect me?

My Belgian Malinois is quite ertive in his behavior. He selectively barks at strangers. He doesn't like pests. He even killed a big rat. He attacked a dog when I mistakenly made a gesture just trying to shoo it away from our property. I just like to know if he will do this behavior when it concerns people around him. He is well socialized. I know he doesn't agree with children around. We play fetch outside with people walking by,cars, bicycles dogs and even cats, of course with my supervision.
